Unexpected delay

On the right, you will notice one cantaloupe-sized knee that appeared without warning in the middle of the night last night.

I have no idea what I did to re-injure it (no "It's Raining Men" involved this time), but I’m off to the doctor tomorrow to find out more.  Until then, I just don’t have it in me to write a happy post (Spain, part dos) about our recent trip.  Without my usual morning run and other routines (and the prospect that I won’t be running my fall races), I’m feeling a little sorry for myself today.  Even though I logically understand that injuries are a part of running, each one you get can seem catastrophic at the time.

Here’s hoping for a little more perspective after seeing the doctor tomorrow and a little less “poor pitiful me” posts from here on out.

Happy Sunday, everyone!

  1. Oh Lucy! I'm so sorry!! Both of my knees "pop" out of place now and again and look the exact same as yours does right now. SUCH a pain and I can't tell you how many times I have been on crutches unable to exercise and just even handle my "mom duties." I have had many a pity party for myself! And you should do the same. We are all allowed a pity party now and again. And then know that before you know it your knee will heal and you will be running again. Wishing you a very speedy recovery!

    1. Erin - you are SO kind, seriously! It's comforting to know that you throw pity parties for one, even in sunny San Diego. Injuries are infuriating, aren't they?! And as I'm sure you know, the bright side is that the kids love my pity parties ... lots of snuggle time and movies in bed with their crippled mother : ) Take care!
